Ice Cream Flavors
After going through four beat patterns, the students had to come up with their own four beat rhythms that represented their favorite ice cream flavor and then notate on a long strip of colored paper. I checked each students’ flavor for accuracy in note writing and labeling. I then compiled the flavors by colors of paper and we learned 4 four beat patterns at a time. Then the class was split into two, followed by three, then four, and finally five groups, each group reading a different colored line. Instruments were added and groups rotated throughout each color.

Guitar Composition ConcertThe fourth grade students gave a guitar concert of original compositions. Several classes were spent writing and practicing individual pieces. Each class presented their piece to their peers, learning concert etiquette and encouraging self growth. The principle supported the students by congratulating their performances and attending the classes.
Standard Four: Content Knowledge
The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline(s) he or she teaches and creates learning experiences that make these aspects of the discipline accessible and meaningful for learners to assure mastery of the content.

Roller Coaster Music
Kindergarten is many students' first formal exposure to music. This means that the basics are of utmost importance as it is the foundation for the musical career of the student. A roller coaster lesson combined the basics of music - high vs. low, loud vs. soft, fast vs. slow - into a fun experience using string and laminated roller coaster rhythm beats.

Ninja Cat
Fifth grade students learn the history of the drums in the united states, starting with padding. The SMARTBoard was used to show examples and I created a piece called Ninja Cat, that combined stomping, clapping, patchen. The piece was important in showing the foundation of music and the complications of drumming.
